On 2 April the NGO Support Council held an online conference with 391 CSOs on COVID19. The idea was to discuss concerns and better coordinate the activities. The conference adopted some proposals to be submitted to the government and implemented. The proposals included:
- establishment of an Online NGO Public Headquarters to coordinate the activities of NGOs in the fight against coronavirus and increase cooperation;
- creation an online headquarters hotline, preparation of instructions on the rules for monitoring NGOs during pandemic;
- holding an online conference with members of Public Councils operating under the central and local executive authorities;
- preparing video or written appeals of NGO chairmen, public activists, leaders of influence on social networks to the population;
- making calls in accordance with the terms of the public monitoring and information campaign “Stay at home, protect society”;
- conducting an online meeting of NGOs with the responsible representatives of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance, the Ministry of Health and the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers; and
- organizing public monitoring in markets, shops and other outlets to prevent artificial price increases and to inform the relevant agencies and etc.
- It was noted that NGOs need to further expand public awareness and monitoring of the coronavirus pandemic in the regions. The conference summarized all the proposals and submitted them to the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers.
As a result, on April 4, 2020, an online meeting of the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held. The meeting discussed measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the Republic of Azerbaijan and decided to implement the proposals put forward by the participants of the “Republican Online Conference of NGOs on Combating Coronavirus”.
On 6 April the NGO Support Council established a Public Headquarter on COVİD19. It composes of 40 representatives of CSOs and staff of the NGO Support Council. On 6 April the NGO Support Council launched a new project with REAL TV titled ‘Stay at home and learn’. During this project, public discussions will be held on such topics as medical awareness-raising on COVID19, the role of social media, meetings with authors of books published by NGO Support Council, history of national cuisine, etc.
